Das End of Summer Fest geht in die fünfte Runde! Vom 25. bis 28. September 2025 feiern wir fünf Jahre kollektives Engagement, künstlerisch-aktivistische Praxen und community-basierte Vernetzung im und um den Safer Space café révolution.
Die diesjährige Ausgabe steht unter dem Titel «Bridging Legacies» und widmet sich der Frage, wie wir Vergangenes ehren, gemeinsam erinnern und daraus tragfähige Grundlagen für die Zukunft entwickeln können.
In einer Zeit gesellschaftlicher Erschöpfung und struktureller Ungleichheiten fragen wir: Was bedeutet es, ein Vermächtnis weiterzutragen – nicht als Last, sondern als Quelle von Kraft und Verbundenheit? Wie können wir als Community widerstandsfähig bleiben und Räume für Heilung und Austausch schaffen?
«Bridging Legacies» ist ein Fest der Übergänge. Wir laden ein zum Erinnern, Zuhören, Träumen und zum Gestalten dessen, was vor uns liegt 🌱
In Rest We Remember: Care Circle mit Rhoda Davids Abel
Tragen von Vermächtnissen braucht auch Momente der Ruhe. Im Community Care Circle teilt Rhoda Davids Abel Wissen über Heiltraditionen ihrer Familie. Verbunden mit einem Ritual werden Momente des Innehaltens geteilt, die Fürsorge als gelebte Praxis erfahrbar machen.

Rhoda Davids Abel (RDA)
Between dreams and poetic chaos.
Incorporating installation, video, performance and fragmented geopoetics, RDA’s practice engages with the concept of dream mapping and decoding. Fragile explorations of memory artifacts being replanted in temporary vessels using everyday objects and gesture movements. Creating contemporary archives based on in-depth research into global interconnected histories tied to her ancestral roots in South Africa.
Rhoda Davids Abel completed her BA at the (HKB) Bern Academy for Fine Arts/Switzerland in 2021 and her MA Fine Arts at the Sandberg Institute/Gerrit Rietveld Academie/The Netherlands in 2023. She has exhibited in the Kunsthalle Bern, Rote Fabrik Zürich, Kunstmuseum Langenthal, Kunstmuseum Thun, Kunsthalle Palazzo, Read My World International Literature Festival in Amsterdam, Dreiviertel Bern, Stadt Galerie Bern among others. Additionally, she won the Swiss Performance Art Awards in 2022 (with Latefa Wiersch & Dandara Modesto) for the work ‘Neon Bush Girl Society’.
Her work ‘Rx True Form x Rooibos’ was recently acquired by the Kunstsammlung Kanton Bern. The photography work, ‘Silkies I, II & III’ was acquired by the Kunstsammlung Kultur Stadt Bern.
Joy as Legacy: Cookout, Live-Music & DJ-Sets
Heute laden wir gross ein: Zum gemeinsamen Essen, Tanzen und Feiern! Das Cookout knüpft an die Tradition Schwarzer Diaspora-Communities an, in denen Mahlzeiten, Musik und Zusammenkommen zu Ritualen der Freude und Fürsorge wurden. Mit einem Live-Konzert von Caroline Nukula und DJ-Sets von MALEFI Soundsystem machen wir diese Geschichte lebendig und feiern Gemeinschaft als Quelle von Kraft und Verbundenheit.

Rooted in Soul and R&B, Caroline Nukula’s sound is deeply emotive and versatile. Her music goes beyond performance; it’s a heartfelt message — to connect, to feel, and to love deeply. I want to create moments of magic,» says Caroline Nukula. «Music is about feeling again, slowing down, and remembering what matters.» With her warm, powerful voice and emotional depth, Caroline Nukula invites listeners into a soulful universe where every note carries meaning — and where every note is an invitation to feel deeply and celebrate life.
MALEFI is a Canadian-South African DJ and multidisciplinary artist based in Bern. Her bass-driven, diasporic sets radiate sensuality and high energy, blending global club sounds with nostalgic undertones. On the dance floor, MALEFI invites her audience to let go, connect, and surrender to a shared rhythm where intimacy and intensity meet.
Denearis brings every crowd to life with her unique blend of Afrobeat, Miami Bass, and bass-heavy edits. Her sets are energetic, unpredictable, and full of attitude – moving seamlessly from dancehall to electronic experiments, always with a global sound and playful spirit. Rooted in the Bern club scene, she connects styles, heat, and surprises into a vibrant experience.
Zeze comes from Zurich and has roots in Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire. Alongside her studies, she makes her own music, performs as a backing vocalist, and also DJs. Depending on the vibe and season, she plays different styles – currently mainly Afrobeats, RnB, Amapiano, Dancehall, as well as Bouyon and Kompa. «i’m really excited to be part of this and to take you along on a musical journey. The Bridge, That Is Our Back: Poetry Night und Open Mic
Brücken entstehen nicht von selbst – sie werden getragen. In den Texten und Stimmen dieses Abends werden Kämpfe hörbar, Lasten geteilt und daraus Kraft und Verbundenheit geschöpft. Mit Igihozo und den Teilnehmenden der Poetry Workshops entsteht ein Raum, in dem Worte Brücken schlagen – zwischen Erfahrungen, Generationen und Zukünften. Danach laden wir das Publikum ein, auch das Mikrofon in die Hand zu nehmen und ihre Texte zu teilen. Durch den Abend führt Mona-Lisa Kole.

Über die Mitwirkenden
igihozo (they/them) is a multidisciplinary artist, song-receiver, vocal coach and voice care practitioner whose work braids together poetry, music, and ritual. Rooted in dialogue with land, ancestors, and other beings, their practice explores storytelling as a space for healing, resistance, and transformation. Based in Bern, they create and perform across Switzerland while co-cultivating collective spaces such as «Held in Song », «Guayaba Portal», and «Grief Ceremonies »
Mona-Lisa Kole is a community builder and changemaker committed to social justice, with a focus on feminist and anti-racist issues. She is the co-founder of the Safer Space café révolution and active in various sociopolitical collectives. Her work draws on Afro-feminist and intersectional approaches to create spaces of solidarity, care, and social transformation.
Passing the Flame: Opening Night
Das End of Summer Fest 2025 beginnt mit einem Akt des Weitergebens: von einer Generation zur nächsten, von heutigen Kämpfen zu morgigen Visionen. Gemeinsam mit Gifti Tekako von G.V.O. und Listeners Delight öffnen wir die Türen, entzünden die Flamme und feiern das, was uns verbindet. Vergangenheit und Zukunft greifen ineinander – und werden im Jetzt weitergetragen.

Über die Mitwirkenden:
Gifti ist Tänzerin und Eventorganisatorin aus Bern. Sie gestaltet Räume für die Community, in denen Menschen zusammenkommen, sich austauschen, tanzen und neue Künstler*innen entdecken. Besonders am Herzen liegt es ihr, aufstrebenden Talenten eine Plattform zu geben. Anstelle grosser Partys kreiert sie intime und herzliche Gatherings, erfüllt von Freude, Verbundenheit und guter Energie.
Sofī ist eine aufstrebende DJ aus Bern, die mit ihren Sets Clubräume in vibrierende Tanzflächen verwandelt. Inspiriert von Sounds aus der Diaspora und vom afrikanischen Kontinent bringt sie Afropop, Afrobeats und Dancehall mit sicherem Gespür zum Strahlen. Sofī scheut sich nicht, neue Wege zu gehen, und gibt Genres Raum, die sonst oft untergehen. «Ich will Sounds spielen, die wir im Club selten hören – und ihnen die Wertschätzung geben, die sie verdienen.»
Zeze kommt aus Zürich und hat ihre Wurzeln in Ghana und der Côte d’Ivoire. Neben ihrem Studium macht sie eigene Musik, tritt als Backing Vocalist auf und legt auch als DJ auf. Je nach Vibe und Saison spielt sie unterschiedliche Styles – zurzeit vor allem Afrobeats, RnB, Amapiano, Dancehall sowie Bouyon und Kompa. «Ich freue mich sehr, dabei zu sein und euch auf eine musikalische Reise mitzunehmen. Exhibition “Love is in the Hair” by godé
«Love in the Hair» is a photo exhibition by Godeliv, founder of BraidedByGode. What began as braiding her own hair grew into a platform that celebrates identity, trust, and belonging, creating space for Black people in a predominantly white country.
The exhibition honors the beauty and diversity of Black love : romantic, familial, and platonic, with cornrows as a symbol weaving these connections together. Each image highlights the richness of Black relationships and invites all to celebrate, connect, and reflect.

Finding Our Voice: Writing Workshop 2
Startpunkt of Bridging Legacies: Wir beginnen damit, unsere eigene Stimme zu entdecken. In diesem Workshop mit Anna Chiedza Spörri vertiefen die Teilnehmenden ihre Schreibkunst und entwickeln eigene Poetry-Texte, die an der Poetry Night präsentiert werden. Gemeinsam schaffen wir einen Raum, in dem Sprache zur Brücke wird.

Anna Spörri is a movement artist, choreographer, director and activist working between Switzerland and London.
Her body language can be expressive and powerful, as well as soft and fluid. She has a unique abilityto give her emotions shape through movement and words. She fuses different dance styles to create her own movement and experiments with text and spoken word to find various forms of expression.
Anna completed the international training program at Peri Dance in New York, in Los Angeles she attended two programs of the choreographer Rhapsody James, a pioneer of the street dance scene. She has trained in renowned studios in New York, Los Angeles and London. She recently completed a training program at École des Sables in Senegal.
At the age of twenty, Anna co-founded the dance companies«Urban Rebels»and«Unusual» and has been training young TINFAs ever since. She is also a founding member and core part of developing Company MEK which has ade a name for itself through their innovative pieces. Her versatility enables her to dance for commercial providers and for contemporary as well as hip hop choreographers. She is currently on tour with her first own production PERSPECTIVES which she was nominated for PREMIO Schweiz –an award for upcoming performing artists.
In 2024 she is also touring with Father Politics by Company MEK as well as Drzwüsche a Duo she choreographed in 2021and has been selected by Pro Helvetia for the UK residencies at Brixton House.
